Henderson NV Area Guide
Henderson possesses a unique combination of small town values and big city efficiencies. Because of the short distance from the luxury of Las Vegas, but not being in Las Vegas itself, Henderson enjoys the best of both worlds. Henderson also is the largest full-service city in Nevada, with all essential services like ambulance, police, fire and sewer and water, being offered by the city. While Henderson is known for its premier master-planned communities, residents and visitors enjoy outstanding outdoor recreation, a wide variety of cultural events, and fine dining and shopping opportunities. “A place to call home,” Henderson superb quality of life has attracted over a quarter of a million people to live in this desert paradise. Henderson and rest of Southern Nevada attract businesses to relocate in record numbers. With no corporate or personal income tax, and a business incentive program offered by the city, major corporations relocate to Henderson quite frequently. Henderson is also located just a few miles from McCarran International Airport, and the Henderson Executive Airport, recently acquired by Clark County, is planned for major renovation and development as a reliever airport to McCarran. With the recent completion of I-215 into Henderson, the City is more accessible than ever. Henderson History To prevent the entire town from being liquidated, the Nevada State Legislature stepped in to save Henderson in 1947. The Legislature explored the idea of state administration of Magnesium resources for profit. Shortly after a visit to Henderson, Governor Vail Pittman signed the bill to save Henderson from being auctioned off, which included giving the Colorado River Commission control over the magnesium plants. In 1953, the City of Henderson was officially incorporated with a population of 7,410. Because of an established industrial base, Henderson grew quickly. From the original 13 square mile plat, Henderson has grown to the over 94 square mile suburban community that it is today. Henderson’s official slogan is “ A Place to Call Home,” and with its winning combination of small town values and big city amenities, many continue to flock to the city. Green ValleyGreen Valley is a neighborhood of Henderson, Nevada. Originally created by the American Nevada Corporation in 1978, The Green Valley Master Community development resides on 8,400 acres on the southeast part of the Las Vegas Valley. Smaller enclaves called Green Valley Ranch and Green Valley South have also been built in more recent years within the boundaries of the master community. A mixture of ranch-style and equestrian homes can be found in Green Valley. Neighborhood parks and walking trails are plentiful in the neighborhood. Green Valley residents also enjoy ready access to shopping, dining and business opportunities. Public education is provided by the Clark County School District. Green Valley is located a convenient 20 minutes from the heart of Las Vegas, and only 15 from the airport.

Henderson, NV has a variety of parks and recreation opportunities. Over 43 parks are available to the public, featuring dog parks, skate parks, splash pads and lighted sports courts. Facilities in Henderson of note include the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, is home to thousands of migratory waterfowl as well as desert birds. Either within Henderson, or in the surrounding area, there are a variety of attractions from which to choose. For those who enjoy shopping, new, major malls can be found in Henderson. Both within Henderson and in the surrounding Las Vegas area, golf is plentiful, with the area being host to 11 public, semi-private and private courses, including the Jack Nicklaus Reflection Bay at the Lake Las Vegas Resort. Arts and culture are at home at the Henderson Pavilion, the largest outdoor amphitheater in the state.
