Because the Las Vegas Valley lies in such a high altitude area of the Mojave Desert, the temperature changes quite drastically between seasons. Annually, the Las Vegas Valley area receives less than five inches of rain. If you are a fan of variety in weather, then the Las Vegas Valley is the place for you. During the day between June and August, temperatures often exceed 100 °F. In the late summer, particularly in July and August, monsoon season takes over and moist winds from the Gulf of California soak much of the southwestern United States. In the winter, lows are approximately around 30°F and it is common for the mountains in the surrounding areas to receive up to ten feet of snow. The Las Vegas Valley area is driven by the tourism industry. Major attractions include casinos, shopping, fine dining, and conventions. This busy, bustling area is home to over 130,000 hotel rooms that are always filled with excited people ready to take on the city’s adventures.
